Among the Rightly Guided Caliphs, the Caliphs are derived from the Caliph, ie, the one who comes after them. Since the Companions were behind the Holy Prophet, they are called Caliphs. And that is why the righteous speak. This is the plural of Rashid and Rashid means guidance and on the straight path, and the Companions were on the straight path because the companionship of the Holy Prophet (saw) had an effect, so they were indeed righteous.And the number of Righteous Caliphs is 4 and it is also famous. Some scholars say 5 but include the fifth Hazrat Imam Hussain Ibn Ali (RA) but Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was a participant in the caliphate of Hazrat Ali (RA) so he cannot be considered separately. And according to the hadith, there will be 12 righteous caliphs till the Day of Judgment.

خلفاء راشدین میں خلفاء خلیفہ سے ماخوذ ہے یعنی پیچھے آنے والا چونکہ صحابہ حضور اقدس ﷺ کے پیچھے تھے اس لئے خلفاء کہتے ہے۔ اور راشدین اسلیے بولتے ہے۔ یہ راشد کا جمع ہے اور راشد کا معنی ہے ھدایت اور سیدھے راستے پر، اور صحابہ کرام تو تھے سیدھے راستے پر کیونکہ حضور اقدس ﷺ کی صحبت کا اثر تھی اسلیے  وہ بے شک راشدین تھے۔  اور خلفاء راشدین کی تعداد 4 ہے اور یہ مشہور بھی ہے۔ بعض علماء 5 بتاتے ہے لیکن پانچواں حضرت امام حسین ابن علی (رض)  کو شامل کرتے ہے لیکن حضرت امام حسین (رض) حضرت علی (رض) کے دور خلافت میں شریک تھے اسلئے وہ الگ تصور نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔ اور احدیث مبارک کے مطابق خلفاء راشدین 12 ہونگے قیامت تک۔
